Doubt and trust

Doubt and trust

Calm pool of water
Smooth as rolled steel plate
Clear right to your rock-hard bottom

“Dive in!” and, Lord, I want to
Dry and separate
Alone, with just a fig leaf
Ephemeral as a baby’s coo
But heavy as lead

Part for me
Not all, but only fingertips
Accept me
Let me slip into your depths

It won’t be forever, I swear
I do have some buoyancy, somewhere
It will come back to me
I will rise again

Of course, I know your finitude
Trust me, I cannot ignore it
But just for now,

Pretend with me
